My name is Darlene Berkel and I love to travel. Having been born in the Caribbean, enjoyed a European education and graduated from two well known American universities (The college of William and Mary in Virginia & Pepperdine University in Malibu California), I can appreciate the value and benefit of travel as a means of education, relaxation, and business. The stage was therefore set long ago for what I enjoy doing most today: helping people improve their lives and relationships, whether personal or business , through travel.

I enjoy planning family vacations and get-togethers, recommending vacation destinations to colleagues and showing them how to go from “vacation dream” to “vacation memories”. I have traveled extensively both for work and for pleasure, as a student and as a professional, first class and economy. I speak several languages fluently. Travel is a global language that brings peoples and cultures together in a way that nothing else can.

Recently, I was appointed as an advisor and consultant with the Dutch Cooperating Funds (Samenwerkende Fondsen), a platform of several large Dutch donor funding agencies. In the past each agency independently identified and financed Non-Government Organization (NGO) projects, but at present the funds work together with the aim to better coordinate the financing of projects.

As an advisor I realize the overwhelming demand for funding by non-profit organizations and the limited supply by agencies funds. Fundraising has therefore become the primary goal of most non-profit organizations. My goal is to show you how to add a little bit of business Savvy and a whole lot of “fun” to what used to be a dreaded experience: fundraising.
